Sleep Dentistry

Dental anxiety keeps an estimated 40 million Americans from getting the oral health care they need. Although this problem is common, Dr. Kosdon can help alleviate your fears and restore your smile. With sleep dentistry, also known as sedation dentistry, patients can undergo major and minor dental procedures without pain or discomfort right here in our Manhattan and New York City-area practice. Dr. Kosdon's sleep dentistry techniques enable most people to enter a state of such total relaxation that they don't even realize Dr. Kosdon completed the dental work until the treatment has already ended.

Oral Conscious Sedation Dentistry

Although I.V. sedation is an option, you have other choices with sleep dentistry. In fact, patients can experience a peaceful, anxiety-free dental appointment with just one small pill. Oral conscious sedation dentistry involves taking a dose of anti-anxiety medicine about one hour before your appointment with us. Another adult should accompany you to and from our practice because the medication will make you feel drowsy.

Once Dr. Kosdon begins treatment, patients enter a state of deep calm, but not total sleep. During the procedure, a member of our team will monitor your vital signs and make sure you feel alright. After Dr. Kosdon finishes treatment, you may not even remember your time in the dentist's chair. The effects of oral conscious sedation linger for about two to six hours.
With sedation dentistry, Dr. Kosdon offers a simple way of ensuring that patients have not only anxiety-free visits, but pleasant experiences as well.  For many people, sleep dentistry means the difference between dental issues that continue to get worse or a lifetime of healthy, beautiful smiles.
